Communication, credibility, and live practice

Outstanding communication skills are a hallmark of highly effective attorneys. Whether presenting in courtrooms, boardrooms, or internal meetings, lawyers who can communicate with credibility, engagement, and clarity stand out as leaders. This interactive workshop explores the qualities of exceptional communicators and how these qualities manifest verbally and nonverbally across various contexts, including informal in-person meetings, virtual settings, and formal public speaking.

The session begins with our framework for outstanding presentations, breaking down the three key elements of effective communication. Participants then analyze videos of speakers in action, critiquing delivery and identifying strengths and weaknesses. Finally, the program shifts to hands-on practice: participants give a 2–3 minute presentation on a topic of their choosing, receive live feedback from peers using the framework, and gain additional insights from the instructor. This peer-feedback model fosters mutual learning and deeper connections within teams.

The workshop focuses on improvisational speaking rather than formal speeches, to mirror challenges lawyers face in practice. Preparation time is intentionally short to simulate on-the-spot speaking scenarios.
